As Petals transitions to our new business model serving the community for weddings and events, it is necessary to revisit our mission statement. On a whim, a friend suggested “For the Love of Flowers” as we were talking about redesigning our website. My immediate response was, “it's perfect”. But why is it perfect? By definition, a mission statement is meant to be a formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organization or individual. It is a short statement of why an organization exists and communicates its overall goal. It articulates the company’s purpose.
For me, “for the love of flowers” is the reason why we do what we do. If the mission statement is to be a guiding principle, I can apply it to all aspects of our daily activities and our long term goals at Petals. For example, why are we passionate about soil health and integrity? For the love of flowers. Why do we have a seeding schedule and succession seeding plan? For the love of flowers. Why do we invest in marketing, photography and further educating ourselves? For the love of flowers. Why do we share our knowledge with our clients, fellow flower friends and followers? For the love of flowers. Why do we highlight and showcase our blooms on one of the most important days of a couple’s life? For the love of flowers.
I think our mission statement provides clear guidance to Petals' growth and future. If we are considering changing our practices or our direction we will only have to ask ourselves, “Is this for the love of flowers?”. Will this new practice, direction or initiative be in alignment with our love of flowers? Sometimes we have the tendency to over complicate things. But in the end, it is really so simple why we do what we do, and I want our mission statement to be a reflection of that. And with that said, welcome to the new evolution of Petals Flower Co., for the love of flowers.
